Our Stories Podcast series is pleased to present a conversation with Dr. Maria Diab, MD, an oncologist specializing in the treatment of pancreatic cancer and other gastrointestinal malignancies. Dr. Diab shares her story of growing up in a family who had several members diagnosed with cancer, but rarely used the word "cancer" given fear related to the diagnosis. Her love of reading, and science (stem cells are cool), turned Dr. Diab towards medicine, and then experience taking care of people dealing with gastrointestinal cancers during residency in Michigan set her towards her current work at Winship. In these difficult times of the pandemic, Dr. Diab speaks about the importance of getting information from credible sources, and the value of evidence-based medicine. Time with her 2-year-old daughter, who reminds her to enjoy the "little things" in life, is a go to for Dr. Diab to enhance her sense of wellbeing. Listeners will appreciate Dr. Diab's orientation towards gratitude, including life in Atlanta and work at Winship.
