Our Stories is excited to present a conversation with Dr Sarah Friend MD, a medical oncologist based at Emory Saint Joseph's Hospital. Growing up in a small town in central FL, Dr Friend had multiple family members who were physicians, but also patients themselves who had the challenge of dealing with a familial blood disorder. Dr. Friend went to medical school in Florida, where in addition to becoming a doctor, she got to study alongside both of her brothers who were in school there too. To maintain her sense of well-being, Dr Friend spends time with family, tries to stick with a healthy diet and exercises several times a week. Throughout her career Dr Friend has looked for ways to improve the lives of her patients, including efforts to match patients with peers, and studying disparities in breast cancer experiences between racial groups. Listen closely to learn how she got her name!
