Episode Summary

Luqiu (Lulu) Wang, PA-C, is a physician assistant with the Winship leukemia care team, which she joined after working in primary care. She graduated from Charles R. Drew University in Los Angeles with an honor in 2003. In this podcast Ms. Wang shares her story of being "isolated" as an adolescent after being diagnosed and treated for tuberculosis. She passed the hours as an adolescent dealing with illness by reading, learning about her body, education which led to a career in healthcare. The "blessing in disguise" of having been a patient is that she recognized the value early in life about living in the present moment, appreciating what you are able to do, and the importance of taking care of your spiritual and emotional as well as physical health. Not only does Ms. Wang practice wellness at home with gardening, writing and poetry, she also brings her wellness practices into work by donating photographs, flowers and a zen garden to the inpatient space she shares with colleagues.
